James McNaught was a very skillful player born in Dumbarton, Scotland. He played at the kaft-half position and it is from here with his skills and his lack of height 5ft 6in, he earned himself the nick name of ” little wonder”.
McNaught joined Newton Heath in February 1982, but he didn’t make his debut untill September due to having a dislocated elbow, which happened while taking part in a friendly during March.
During his first season Newton Heath were relegated losing in  play-off to Liverpool. Newton Heath were still in the Second Division when McNaught , who at the time had played 162 games for the club decided to leave, he was offered a significant pay-rise to join Tottenham Hotspur which he accepted.
