Welsh wing-half Ray Bennion had a miserable start to life at United, losing 0-5 on his debut to Everton and being relegated in his first season. His stirling support play helped United to regain its top-flight status in 1925, he played regulary for the club untill 1932, when he joined Burnley, the club he then went on to coach for over 30 years.
During his time at United he played over 300 games.
