The Chants Page

In here you will find all the chants to sing at Old Trafford to stop our great stadium becoming a morgue like Anfield and Stamford Bridge

United Road

Tune: Country Roads (John Denver)

United Road, take me home
To the place, I belong;
To Old Trafford, to see United;
Take me home, United road

United Calypso

If ever they are playing in your town,
You must get to that football ground;
Take a lesson come and see,
Football taught by Matt Busby;
Manchester, Manchester United;
A bunch of bouncing Busby Babes,
They deserve to be knighted!

Forever and Ever

Forever and Ever,
We’ll follow the boys,
Of Manchester United,
The Busby Babes,
For we made a promise,
To defend our faith,
In Manchester United,
The Busby Babes.

We’ve all sworn allegiance,
To fight till we die,
To stand by United,
And the Red flag we fly,
There’ll be no surrender,
We’ll fight to the last,
To defeat all before us,
As we did in the past.
For we’re Stretford Enders,
With United we grew,
To the famous Red Devils,
We’re loyal and true,
To part-time supporters,
We’ll never descend,
We’ll never forsake you,
We’ll be here to the end.

For we all remember,
That ‘58 day,
And the plane that once stood on,
That Munich runway,
As it tried to take off,
For the third fatal time,
The immortal young babes were,
Cut down in their prime.

In the cold snow of Munich,
They laid down their lives,
But they live on forever,
In our hearts and our minds,
Their names are now legend,
For the whole world to see.
Why this club’s a religion,
Spelt M.U.F.C.
So bow down before them,
And lift up your eyes,
For Old Trafford’s glory,
Will always survive

The Greatest Team

Tune: Wild Rover

From the dark snows of Munich back in ‘58,
I remember a team that once was so great,
Their memory it still lingers on in my mind,
So I’ll follow United, ’till the end of my time.

And its Man United,
Man United F.C.
They’re by far the greatest team,
The world has ever seen.

“It’s glory or nothing” the great man he said,
There’s nothing on Earth like being a Red,
I’ll follow them far and I’ll follow them near,
I’ll follow United on whisky and beer.

There is a plaque at Man United,
It’s underneath the old main stand,
It bears the name of Duncan Edwards,
He was the finest in the land.

But he died on Munich’s runway,
Without a tear, without a sound,
His strong body battered and broke,
As he lay helpless on the ground.

But one man survived the aircrash,
And he lived to tell the tale,
Of the boys who played in Red,
For they did not know how to fail.

So we’ll drink a toast to Matt Busby,
And we’ll drink one to that team,
They were acclaimed the whole world over,
They were the finest ever seen.

Jingle Bells

Tune: “Jingle Bells”

Jingle bells,
Jingle bells,
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to see United win away….

Ob-La-Di, European Champions

Tune: “Ob-La-Di”

Bobby gets the ball upon the centre-spot,
He knocks it out to Georgie on the wing,
Goergie beats his man and then puts in a cross,
For Dennis Law, and it’s a goal, and he’s the king.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da,
Man Uni-ted,
European Champions.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da,
Man Uni-ted,
European Champions.

Now, Keano gets the ball upon the centre-spot,
He knocks it out to Ryan on the wing,
Ryan beats his man and then puts in a cross,
For Andy Cole, and it’s a goal, and he’s the king.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da,
Man Uni-ted,
European Champions.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da,
Man Uni-ted,
European Champions.

United Flag

Tune:  Red Flag

United’s flag is deepest red,
It shrouded all our Munich dead,
Before their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their heart’s blood dyed it’s ev’ry fold.

Then raise United’s banner high,
Beneath it’s shade we’ll live and die,
So keep the faith and never fear,
We’ll keep the Red Flag flying here.

We’ll never die, we’ll never die,
We’ll never die, we’ll never die,
We’ll keep the Red flag flying high,
‘Cos Man United will never die.

Stretford End Rising

Tune:  Bad Moon Rising

I see the Stretford End arising;
I see there’s trouble on the way.

Don’t go out tonight,
Unless you’re red and white;
I see there’s trouble on the way;

Busby Boys

Tune:  Hello, Hello

Hello, hello, we are the Busby Boys
Hello, hello, we are the Busby Boys
And if you are a City fan surrender or you’ll die,
We all follow United

We Shall Not Be Moved

Tune: We Shall Not Be Moved

We shall not, we shall not be moved,
We shall not, we shall not be moved,
Just like a team, that’s going to win the football league (again),
We shall not be moved

Barcelona One Fine Day

We went down to Barce one fine day in May,
With all the fans drinking to Busby’s birthday,
And when it was over, and when it was done,
We’d defeated Bayern Munich by two goals to one.

The first was by Teddy, he out-foxed the rest,
The second by ?Ole!, to finish our quest,
We could have scored 4 and we could have scored 9,
But we didn’t start playing ’til injury time!

The Germans they thought that they had it sewn up,
Their ribbons were already tied on the Cup,
But Teddy said “Hang on, it’s not over yet”,
As he steered the ball into the back of the net.

From Beckham’s next corner, Teddy got the first touch,
And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said “Thanks very much”,
The Bayern defenders fell down to the floor,
As from round the Nou Camp came an almighty roar!
If they’d asked the Scousers or Juventus Turin,
They’d have known it’s not over ’til the fat lady sings,
When you’re playing United, as they found to their cost,
One minute you’re winning and the next you have lost!

United keep fighting and never give up,
That’s why we’re the Champions and we’ve won the Cup,
We’re Champions of Europe too, we’ve won them all,
We’re Manchester United, the Kings of Football.

Oh the lads (Matt Busby’s Aces)

Tune: Blaydon Races

Oh the lads,
You should’ve seen us coming,
The fastest team in the land,
Just to see us running,
All the lads and lasses,
With smiles upon their faces,
Walking down the Warwick Road,
To see Matt Busby’s Aces.

The Flowers of Manchester

One cold and bitter Thursday in Munich, Germany,
Eight great football stalwarts conceded victory.

Eight men will never play again, who met destruction there,
The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester.

Matt Busby’s boys were flying home, returning from Belgrade,
This great United family all masters of their trade.

The pilot of the aircraft, the skipper Captain Thain,
Three times they tried to take off and twice turned back again.

The third time down the runway disaster followed close,
There was slush upon that runway and the aircraft never rose.

It ploughed into the marshy ground, it broke, it overturned.
And eight of the team were killed as the blazing wreckage burned.

Roger Byrne and Tommy Taylor, who were capped for England’s side,
And Ireland’s Billy Whelan and England’s Geoff Bent died.

Mark Jones and Eddie Colman and David Pegg also,
They all lost their lives as it ploughed on through the snow.

Big Duncan he went too, with an injury to his brain,
And Ireland’s brave Jack Blanchflower will never play again.

The great Matt Busby lay there, the father of his team,
Three long months were to pass before he walked again.

The trainer, coach and secretary and a member of the crew,
And eight great sporting journalists who with United flew,
And one of them was Big Swifty who we shall ne’er forget,
The finest English goalkeeper that ever graced the net.

Oh England’s finest football team it’s record truly great,
It’s proud successes mocked by a cruel turn of fate.

Eight men will never play again who met destruction there,
The flowers of English football, the flowers of Manchester.

Fight for United

Tune: The Halls of Montezuma (US Marine march)

From the banks of the River Irwell,

We will fight, fight, fight, for United,Till we win the football league.

We all live in a Georgie Best world, a Georgie Best world, a Georgie Best world
We all live in a Georgie Best world, a Georgie Best world, a Georgie Best world
Oh number one….

George Best

One day, on the back streets of Belfast,
A young man was born too soon,
For had he been born today, boys,
This game with knows no gloom.

For he stood only 5 ft 8 inches,
He weighed only eight stone,
By day he played with his friends there,
By night he played on his own.

Then early one morning a letter,
Arrived in the post at his home.
“Will your son please board the ferry,
From Ireland to England alone”.

So a young lad arrived at Old Trafford,
Prepared to give his all,
But England’s a long way from Belfast,
And the Emerald Isle did call.

It took all of Matt Busby’s persuasion,
To make him come back for the Test,
For he knew that he’d found a genius,
Who was so far ahead of the rest.

He could run at the speed of a greyhound,
Turn on a sixpence and shoot,
Dribble his way through a minefield,
While still only wearing one boot.

His playing brought crowds in their thousands,
His antics attacks from the press,
But they still had to bow down in tribute,
And acknowledge true genius George Best.

Eric Cantona

Tune: Lilly The Pink

We’ll drink, a drink, a drink, to Eric the King, the King, the King,
He’s the Leader of our football team,

What a friend we have in Jesus,
He’s our saviour from afar,
What a friend we have in Jesus,
And His name is Cantona.

Ooh-aah Cantona,

Ooh-aah, ooh-aah, ooh-aah Cantona,

Eric Cantona

Tune: The Twelve Days of Christmas

On the first day of Christmas my true-love gave to me,
An Eric Cantona.

<COUNT FROM TWELVE TO ONE>

Twelve Cantonas,
